It has been suggested that impairment of intestinal wall integrity may contribute to the low-grade inflammation in subjects with metabolic distribances and foster progression of cardiovascular, liver or neurological diseases. Recent studies provide evidence that dietary polyphenols may important role in gut health and homeostasis, as one of the proposed mechanisms of their beneficial systemic effects.
