AB - Background: Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been recognized by the International Pharmaceutical Federation as a required competency for a pharmacist. This study aimed to compare EI and Perceived Stress (PS) levels in pharmacists who completed the post-graduate specialization program (the Case), and pharmacists who started the program (the Control group). Materials and Methods: Validated instruments measuring EI and PS were distributed online to participating postgraduates or alumni. All complete responses were analyzed; data from participants who had undergone previous EI training were excluded. Comparing the groups, additional EI domains’ subanalysis and their correlations with PS were made. Results: The overall response rate was 67.8%. There was no expected difference between the groups either in EI or in the PS levels, and the overall population reached means of 119.30±12.92 and 17.25±6.46, respectively. The highest EI levels were found in sales and marketing professionals in the pharmaceutical industry and the lowest in clinical pharmacy practitioners. EI and PS were highly negatively correlated (r=-0,543), thus indicating that developing EI may have protective effects against stress. Subanalysis revealed the highest potential for stress-protective effects in the Emotional Self-Management and Emotional Self-Control subdomains (r=-0,528, r=-0,457, respectively). Conclusion: Given the expanded importance of EI development in pharmacy practice, the results of the study could be a basis for the specialization and continuing pharmacist education program creators to evaluate the curricula and propose changes in the methodologies, contents, and approaches in work to meet development needs of post-graduate pharmacists better. Further research should confirm the findings of the EI subanalysis.

AB - Background: The use of benzodiazepines (BZDs) in older population is often accompanied by drug-related complications. Inappropriate BZD use significantly alters older adults’ clinical and functional status. This study compares the prevalence, prescribing patterns and factors associated with BZD use in community-dwelling older patients in 7 European countries. Methods: International, cross-sectional study was conducted in community-dwelling older adults (65 +) in the Czech Republic, Serbia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Turkey, and Spain between Feb2019 and Mar2020. Structured and standardized questionnaire based on interRAI assessment scales was applied. Logistic regression was used to evaluate factors associated with BZD use. Results: Out of 2,865 older patients (mean age 73.2 years ± 6.8, 61.2% women) 14.9% were BZD users. The highest prevalence of BZD use was identified in Croatia (35.5%), Spain (33.5%) and Serbia (31.3%). The most frequently prescribed BZDs were diazepam (27.9% of 426 BZD users), alprazolam (23.7%), bromazepam (22.8%) and lorazepam (16.7%). Independent factors associated with BZD use were female gender (OR 1.58, 95%CI 1.19–2.10), hyperpolypharmacy (OR 1.97, 95%CI 1.22–3.16), anxiety (OR 4.26, 95%CI 2.86–6.38), sleeping problems (OR 4.47, 95%CI 3.38–5.92), depression (OR 1.95, 95%CI 1.29–2.95), repetitive anxious complaints (OR 1.77, 95%CI 1.29–2.42), problems with syncope (OR 1.78, 95%CI 1.03–3.06), and loss of appetite (OR 0.60, 95%CI 0.38–0.94). In comparison to Croatia, residing in other countries was associated with lower odds of BZD use (ORs varied from 0.49 (95%CI 0.32–0.75) in Spain to 0.01 (95%CI 0.00–0.03) in Turkey), excluding Serbia (OR 1.11, 95%CI 0.79–1.56). Conclusions: Despite well-known negative effects, BZDs are still frequently prescribed in older outpatient population in European countries. Principles of safer geriatric prescribing and effective deprescribing strategies should be individually applied in older BZD users.

AB - Objectives: Evidence suggests that both N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) and NAC in combination with propolis (NAC-P) reduce symptoms of acute bronchitis and improve Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). This study aimed to compare the impact of NAC and NAC-P therapy on acute bronchitis patients' quality of life. Design, setting, and subjects: A randomized, single-blind parallel-group study was achieved at Municipal Institute for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis Medical Centre, Belgrade, Serbia. Patients with acute bronchitis were randomly assigned into two groups to receive NAC (200mg three times a day) or NAC-P (200mg+80mg three times a day) orally for a minimum of ten days. HRQoL of patients was measured twice (at two appointments) using the Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ) and EQ-5D questionnaires. Results: The study included 42 patients in the NAC-P group and 43 in the NAC group. The correlation between the LCQ total score and Health State Values (HSV) was positive and statistically significant in the NAC-P and the NAC groups at the second appointment. The differences between values of EQ-5D scores were slightly higher (but not statistically significant) in the NAC-P group compared to the NAC group, indicating a more remarkable improvement of HRQoL using NAC-P. Conclusion: NAC-P and NAC may improve HRQoL in patients with acute bronchitis. EQ-5D scale values indicated that NAC-P might improve quality of life more than NAC. Our results may provide the basis for better decision-making by healthcare professionals when choosing the right therapy.

AB - Kao jedan od najvećih javnozdravstvenih izazova diabetes mellitus predstavlja razlog
konstantnog unapređenja farmakoterapije (1). Savremena terapija diabetes mellitus-a može
promeniti tok bolesti, prevenirati komplikacije i doprineti uštedi u zdravstvu (2).
u 2021. godini nasuprot 0,001 DDD/1000 stanovnika/dan u 2015. godini). Rastući trend potrošnje
posebno je izražen kod metformina i SGLT2 inhibitora. Rezultati ukazuju na usklađenost primene
antidijabetika sa preporukama Nacionalnog vodiča.
AB - As one of the biggest public health challenges, diabetes mellitus represents the reason for the
constant pharmacotherapy improvement (1). Modern therapy of diabetes mellitus can alter the
course of the disease, prevent complications, and contribute to healthcare savings (2). This study
aimed to analyze the consumption of antidiabetic drugs in the Republic of Serbia from 2012 to 2021
and compliance with the recommendations of the National Guide. The consumption of all registered
antidiabetic drugs was obtained from publications of the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency of
Serbia. For each International Nonproprietary Name (INN), consumption was monitored and
expressed in a standardized unit-defined daily dose per 1000 inhabitants per day (DDD/1000
inhabitants/day). During the study period, the highest consumption was observed in 2020, while the
lowest was in 2012. Antidiabetic drug consumption in 2021 amounted to 92.18 DDD/1000
inhabitants/day, which is 23.73% higher compared to 2012. The consumption of oral antidiabetics
was dominant, on average 4.45 times more than insulin and analogs. The most commonly used drugs
until 2017 in total antidiabetic consumption were sulfonylureas and sulfonylurea derivatives,
constituting an average of 43.39%. After 2017, metformin took the lead in consumption, reaching
48.75% of total antidiabetic consumption in 2021. New oral antidiabetic drugs do not exceed 0.1%
of the total consumption during the examined period. However, sodium-glucose cotransporter-2
(SGLT2) inhibitors (3.19 DDD/1000 inhabitants/day in 2021 compared to 0.001 DDD/1000
inhabitants/day in 2015) noted the most significant increase. The increasing consumption trend is
particularly pronounced for metformin and SGLT2 inhibitors. The results indicate compliance in the
use of antidiabetic drugs with the National Guide recommendations.

AB - Background: Although the use of medicinal plants have been known since ancient times, an increased use of herbal products is evident in the last few decades, mainly as a part of self-care treatments. In addition to the positive health effects, the use of herbal products can cause certain side effects as well as interactions with conventional therapy, especially among elderly patients.
Purpose: To examine the awareness, habits and attitudes of elderly patients towards the use of herbal products in the Republic of Serbia.
Method: The quantitative, non-experimental research was conducted using a questionnaire in public pharmacies during February 2020. Patients older than 60 years were included in the study. The study was anonymous, and patients gave informed consent.
Results: The study involved 436 patients, of whom 62.4% were female. Most of the respondents live in the city (72.9%) and have a high school or lower education degree (61.9%). Most patients (32.3%) use herbal products daily, while only 12.1% rarely or never use them. Every fourth patient (24.5%) uses them for treatment, while 69.5% to improve their health. Although the majority of patients purchase herbal products in pharmacies and in health food stores (53.6% and 20.8%, respectively), a significant number (19.3%) collect medicinal plants and prepare herbal preparations themselves. The main sources of information about medicinal plants / herbal products are pharmacists (39.7%) and people from the immediate area (28.4%), followed by the media (18.2%) and physicians (11.1%). Every fourth patient (24.5%) uses herbal products for the treatment of some health issues, while 69.5% of patients use herbal products to improve their health. 48.9% of them believe that herbal products are safe, but with some side effects, while 35.8% believe herbal products are completely free of any side effects. Half of respondents (51.4%) believe that herbal products are as effective as or more effective than synthetic medicines. Less than one-third of patients (29.8%) indicated that they knew the difference between herbal medicinal products and herbal dietary supplements. Still, a third of patients (36.7%) needed additional explanations for the use of herbal products. 76.6% of patients stated that they always receive advice from a pharmacist when purchasing herbal products.
Conclusion: The survey conducted in this work showed that elderly patients use herbal products to a considerable extent, which means that it is necessary to educate elderly patients on this matter. Pharmacists should play a vital role in this process and actively discuss the characteristics and proper use of herbal products with patients, especially having in mind the high possibility of interactions with conventional medicines and occurrence of side effects. Since the quality of some herbal products sometimes could be questionable, especially non-regulated ones, patients should be encouraged to purchase them from pharmacies and consult with pharmacists.

AB - Background In Europe, Serbia occupies a high position in antibiotic utilization and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Aim The aim was to analyse utilization trends of meropenem, ceftazidime, aminoglycosides, piperacillin/tazobactam and fluoroquinolones (2006–2020), and the reported AMR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (2013–2020) in Serbia and to compare with data from eight European countries (2015–2020). Method Joinpoint regression was used to analyse antibiotic utilization data (2006–2020) and the reported AMR in Pseu- domonas aeruginosa (2013–2020). Data sources were relevant national and international institutions. Antibiotic utilization and AMR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa data in Serbia were compared with eight European countries. Results There was a significantly increased trend for ceftazidime utilization and reported resistance in Pseudomonas aer- uginosa, Serbia (p < 0.05) (2018–2020). For ceftazidime, piperacillin/tazobactam, and fluoroquinolones resistances in Pseu- domonas aeruginosa an increased trend was observed, Serbia (2013–2020). A decrease in both the utilization of aminogly- cosides, Serbia (p < 0.05) (2006–2018) and contemporaneous Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistance (p > 0.05) was detected. Fluoroquinolone utilization (2015–2020) was highest in Serbia compared to Netherlands and Finland, 310 and 305% higher, similar compared to Romania, and 2% less compared to Montenegro. Aminoglycosides (2015–2020) were 2550 and 783% more used in Serbia compared to Finland and Netherlands, and 38% less regarding Montenegro. The highest percentage of Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistance was in Romania and Serbia (2015–2020). Conclusion The use of piperacillin/tazobactam, ceftazidime and fluoroquinolones should be carefully monitored in clinical practice due to increased Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistance. The level of utilization and AMR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa is still high in Serbia compared to other European countries.

AB - Background: Community pharmacists contribute substantially to public health and person-centred care. Emotional intelligence (EI) may help health professionals better engage with patients, handle stress in challenging situations and, presumably, better introduce and implement new services. Aim: The study's aims were to compare the EI and perceived stress (PS) levels of community pharmacists who provided a new service to patients with diabetes with their controls who provided standard pharmaceutical services and to test the correlations between the two constructs. Method: This study used a survey methodology. Well-validated instruments were distributed electronically to all participating pharmacists. To compare the continuous EI and PS data between the two study groups, the paired-samples t test was used. Pearson and Spearman’s correlations were used to test the associations between EI and PS and their respective subdomains. Results: A total of 86 pharmacists participated in the study (n = 43 in each group). The study groups did not differ by any characteristic except gender. Their mean EI and PS levels were 120.95 ± 11.53 and 17.45 ± 4.55, respectively, with no difference between the groups. In both study groups, inverse correlations were found between PS and EI levels, with statistical significance in the control group and in the overall study population (r = − 0.611 and r = − 0.370, respectively). Conclusion: Our results suggest that the introduction of the EI agenda into certification programmes for new community pharmacy services should be considered. The results also suggest that higher EI may have protective effects against PS. Additional research would clarify the need to invest more in such programmes.

AB - This systematic literature review aimed to provide an overview of the characteristics and methods used in studies applying the Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY) concept for infectious diseases within European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA)/European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and the United Kingdom. Electronic databases and grey literature were searched for articles reporting the assessment of DALY and its components. We considered studies in which researchers performed DALY calculations using primary epidemiological data input sources. We screened 3,053 studies of which 2,948 were excluded and 105 studies met our inclusion criteria. Of these studies, 22 were multi-country and 83 were single-country studies, of which 46 were from the Netherlands. Food- and water-borne diseases were the most frequently studied infectious diseases. Between 2015 and 2022, the number of burden of infectious disease studies was 1.6 times higher compared to that published between 2000 and 2014. Almost all studies (97%) estimated DALYs based on the incidence- and pathogen-based approach and without social weighting functions; however, there was less methodological consensus with regards to the disability weights and life tables that were applied. The number of burden of infectious disease studies undertaken across Europe has increased over time. Development and use of guidelines will promote performing burden of infectious disease studies and facilitate comparability of the results.

AB - Stress is one of the most significant factors that can influence the academic
performance of students. To explore the causes of stress in students, the crosssectional
online survey was conducted during semester (in 2019 year) and during
examination period (in 2020 year) period at the University of Belgrade - Faculty of
Pharmacy. The main results indicated that female gender was the most significant
predictor of stress during the examimation period, and the most frequent stress
sources were limited time to prepare exams and/or colloquia. The role of family,
friends, and boyfriend/girlfriend showed to be of great importance in stress reduction
during the semester and especially during the examimation period. The most frequent
manifestations of stress were feeling nervous, tired and worried. For stress reduction
students usually listened to music and talked with friends. Therefore, student’s
obligations and their overall living conditions should be observed comprehensively.
These results may indicate further actions to decrease stress levels in students, and
need for academic environment that may help students to achieve the best academic
performance.
U cilju ispitivanja uzroka stresa u populaciji studenata Farmaceutskog fakulteta Univerziteta u
Beogradu, sprovedena je studija preseka tokom semestra (u 2019. godini) i ispitnog roka (u
2020. godini), putem onlajn upitnika.
Porodica, prijatelji i partneri su najznačajniji u smanjenju stresa,
posebno tokom ispitnih rokova. Najčešće manifestacije stresa su osećaj nervoze, umora i
zabrinutosti.
Time obaveze i uslove života studenata treba sveobuhvatno posmatrati.

AB - Uvod i cilj.
dopuna molekularnoj dijagnostici SARS-CoV-2 infekcije. Cilj ovog ispitivanja je da se proceni
slaganje SARS-CoV-2 seroloških testova pet različitih proizvođača i ispita imuni odgovor na
različite vrste vakcina.
Metode. Korišćene su metode: Sars-CoV-2 IgG (Beckman Coulter) (I), SARS-CoV-2 ukupna
antitela (BioRad) (II), SARS-CoV-2 IgG II Quant (Abbott) (III), SARS-CoV-2 IgG (Abbott) (IV) i
Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 (Roche) (V). Paralelno je ispitivano metodom I i II 44 uzorka, I i III 84
uzorka, I i IV 53 uzorka, I i V 80 uzoraka.
Rezultati. II i III metodom je dobijen značajno veći broj reaktivnih rezultata u odnosu na I
metod (65,9% i 91,7% vs 52,3%). I i IV metode su pokazale slaganje u reaktivnosti (60,4% vs
69,8%), dok I i V metodom nije dobijeno slaganje u reaktivnosti rezultata (58,8% vs 93,8%).
imunizacije (P=0,032 i P=0,012).
godina starosti ispitanika (P=0,197).
Zaključak
Iako serološka imunoodređivanja pokazuju značajne analitičke i kliničke karakteristike za
detekciju SARS-CoV-2 i dalje postoji problem kompletne evaluacije testova i neizvesnosti u
pogledu tačnosti rezultata i njihove uporedivosti.

imunizacije (P=0,032 i P=0,012).
godina starosti ispitanika (P=0,197).
Zaključak
Iako serološka imunoodređivanja pokazuju značajne analitičke i kliničke karakteristike za
detekciju SARS-CoV-2 i dalje postoji problem kompletne evaluacije testova i neizvesnosti u
pogledu tačnosti rezultata i njihove uporedivosti.",

AB - Antibiotics are the gold standard in treating and preventing recurrent urinary tract
infections (UTIs), but their widespread, irrational use leads to the development of
antimicrobial resistance (1,2). The aim of this study was to analyze the use of antibiotics in
patients with UTIs symptoms. An online survey for patients was disseminated by
researchers and community pharmacists during the winter 2020/21. The study was
approved by the Ethical Committee of the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Pharmacy. The
study included 736 respondents, 31.5 years of age in average, and most of them were women
(80.8%). Approximately 40% of patients reported that they experienced symptoms of UTIs
in previous years, and 49.3% of patients did not seek a counsel of health care professionals,
and rather had used therapy following the advice of friends, family members or by their
opinion. A smaller number of patients used antibiotics in therapy (n=178, 24.2%) prescribed
by the doctor (79.2% of patients), and in some cases without prior consultation with a doctor
(20.8% of patients). Antibiotics successfully treated 70% of UTIs. According to data collected
from 133 patients, 17 different antibiotics were used in UTI treatment. The most used
antibiotics were: ciprofloxacin (23.3%), cephalexin (17.3%) and fosfomycin (14.3%).
Antibiotics used for UTIs treatment didn’t comply with the European Association of Urology
guidelines. Considering that the use of medicines could be initiated by patients and therefore
be unreported, the use of medicines for UTIs should be analysed both from clinical patients’
data records and individual patients’ reports.
AB - Antibiotici predstavljaju zlatni standard u lečenju i prevenciji rekurentnih infekcija
urinarnog trakta (IUT), ali njihova učestala, neracionalna upotreba dovodi do razvoja
antimikrobne rezistencije (1,2).
Istraživači i farmaceuti u javnim apotekama
su distribuirali pacijentima onlajn anketu tokom zime 2020/21. Studiju je odobrila Etička
komisija Farmaceutskog fakulteta – Univerziteta u Beogradu.
(79,2% pacijenata), a u pojedinim slučajevima i bez prethodne konsultacije sa lekarom
(20,8% pacijenata). Antibiotici su uspešno lečili 70% IUT. Prema podacima prikupljenim od
133 pacijenta, u lečenju IUT korišćeno je 17 različitih antibiotika. Najviše korišćeni
antibiotici su: ciprofloksacin (23,3%), cefaleksin (17,3%) i fosfomicin (14,3%). Antibiotici

AB - The use of medicinal plants has significant impact on human health (1,2). Approximately 13.000 medicinal plants are used worldwide (1), and in developing countries 65-80% of the population uses them for medicinal purposes (2).
The aim of the study was to examine the awareness of patients in the city of Belgrade about herbal products. Quantitative, non-experimental research was conducted using a purpose-built questionnaire in public pharmacies during February 2020.
The survey involved 954 respondents, mostly women (66.5%); 39.1% of respondents aged 20-40 years. Most of the respondents were employed (65.2%), with secondary school education (45.2%). The vast majority (97.3%) used medicinal plants/herbal products, mostly occasionally, as needed (38.4%). The main motive for their use was health improvement (75.2%), while 16.2% used them to treat diseases. The primary sources of information on medicinal plants/herbal products are pharmacists (45.1%) and the media (24.2%). About a third of the respondents (37.3%) stated that they knew the difference between herbal medicinal products and dietary supplements. 52.9% of respondents claimed that herbal medicinal products are effective, but less than synthetic drugs, while 61.5% claimed that they are safe, but with certain side effects. A third of respondents (32.9%) had difficulty understanding instructions for use and they needed additional explanations. Majority (70.6%) received advice from a pharmacist when buying a herbal product.
Pharmacists are health professionals who have adequate knowledge of medicinal plants/herbal products and have a key role in advising patients in order to implement the proper use of herbal medicinal and other herbal products.

AB - Introduction: At the Faculty of Pharmacy University of Belgrade, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (0SCE) was introduced to assess clinical competences and communication skills of pharmacy students following their 6-weeks practice in public pharmacies during the 10th semester. Methods: The OSCE consisted of one patient case that was presented to the student firstly in a short written form. The patient case had at least one drug-related problem that the student was expected to identify and solve. A teaching assistant played the role of the patient and a teacher assessed the communication skills and clinical competences during the student's interview with the „patient" using a structured form (checklist). The student had limited time (7 minutes) to identify and solve the drug-related problem(s) and to councel the patient. The use of a Drug register and Pharmacotherapy guide were allowed. Results: One hundred fifty students completed the OSCE so far. The students could achieve O-40 points during the exam, according to their performance. The maximal point score was achieved if the student obtained all relevant information from the patient”, identified and solved the drug-related problem(s) and offered appropriate information. The minimal point score (0) was assigned if the student made an error which could harm the patient. The median result of the OSCE was 28 points (interquatile range 10), while 7 students (4.7%) scored 0-9 points, 12 (8.0%) scored 10-19 points, 68 (45.3%) scored 20-29 points, 58 (38.79%) scored 30-39 points and 5 students (3.3%) scored 40 points. Conclusions: The introduction of the OSCE was successful and enabled the teaching staff to obtain a more accurate knowledge of the students’ clinical competences and communication skills as well as to identify gaps in the competences in skills which need to be improved.

abstract = "Introduction: At the Faculty of Pharmacy University of Belgrade, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (0SCE) was introduced to assess clinical competences and communication skills of pharmacy students following their 6-weeks practice in public pharmacies during the 10th semester. Conclusions: The introduction of the OSCE was successful and enabled the teaching staff to obtain a more accurate knowledge of the students’ clinical competences and communication skills as well as to identify gaps in the competences in skills which need to be improved.",

AB - Telepharmacy impacts pharmacists’ involvement in healthcare provision and health
care outcomes (1). This service was implemented in Slovenia since September 2020 (2),
opposite to Serbia where this service is not yet implemented. The objective of this study was
to compare views of community pharmacists from Serbia and Slovenia in regards to their
understanding of the concept of telepharmacy, perceived risks and facilitators, as well as
views on overall capacity to implement such services. Semi-structured interviews with
community pharmacists were conducted in Slovenia and Serbia from October 2020 to March
2021. Interviews were transcribed ad verbatim, coded, thematically analysed and results
were compared for each major emerged theme. In total, 33 community pharmacists accepted
to participate (10 from Slovenia and 23 from Serbia). Pharmacists from both countries
expressed great interest, motivation and understanding of the concept of telepharmacy.
Participants agreed that the services should be charged and remunerated mostly by health
insurance funds, and complement the provision of pharmaceutical care in person. They both
shared doubts regarding adequacy of pharmacists’ involvement in provision of healthcare,
recognising telepharmacy as a tool to enhance it. Participants from Slovenia expressed
concerns regarding standardisation, regulations and personal data protection surrounding
telepharmacy. On the other hand, participants from Serbia believed that implementing
telepharmacy is not yet possible due to lacking regulatory, financial and organisational
infrastructure. Slovenian telepharmacy service model may present a good example for
profound understanding of facilitators, risks and barriers related to development and
implementation of a new pharmacy service in Serbia.
oktobra 2020. do marta 2021.
telefarmacije još nije moguća zbog nedostatka regulatorne, finansijske i organizacione
infrastrukture.
apotekarske usluge u Srbiji.

AB - Emotional intelligence (EI) represents a set of skills that may help in the appraisal,
expression, and effective regulation of our own emotions and the emotions of others (1).
Pharmacists’ ability to communicate positively and create bonds with patients may have an
impact on patients’ health outcomes during the provision of pharmaceutical care (2). Despite
evidence that supports the hypothesis that developing EI in healthcare professionals (HCPs)
may increase their capacity to improve patients’ health-related outcomes, little is known
about it in pharmacy practice. Our study aimed to critically appraise available data on the
potential impact of EI on pharmacy practice. The search of papers in English published
between 2000 and 2021 was performed in the PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase
databases, by defined inclusion criteria. Only four papers were selected for further analysis.
In the study on the pharmacy leadership programs, it was found that they may support the
enhancement of EI levels. Another study suggested that hospital pharmacists’ EI may
influence the reversal of the negative correlation between autistic-like traits and empathy. A
positive correlation between EI and entrepreneurial orientation was found in a study that
involved practicing community pharmacists. One of the studies emphasized pharmacists’
superiority among various HCPs in the social skills, self-motivation, and self-awareness EI
sub-domains. Further research is required to provide evidence on the potential impact of EI
and EI development programs on the pharmacy practice, and patients’ health-related
outcomes. Such studies in Serbia would add strong value to the evolution of pharmaceutical
care.

sličnih autizmu i empatije.
samomotivacije i samosvesti.
potencijalnom uticaju programa razvoja EI i same EI na farmaceutsku praksu i ishode u vezi
sa zdravljem pacijenata. Ovakve studije u Srbiji bi dale snažan doprinos evoluciji

AB - Medication non-adherence is recognized as a global problem associated with financial burden for patients
and healthcare funds. At the European level, different Medication Adherence Technologies (MATech) are in use. The
European Network to Advance Best practices and technoLogy on medication adherencE (ENABLE, COST Action
19132) was launched to: 1) identify current practices for Medication Adherence (MA) support by healthcare
professionals; 2) create a structure for the repository of existing MATech that could be used by different
stakeholders; and to 3) prepare guidance for sustainable implementation of MATech across European healthcare
settings. ENABLE gathered different healthcare professionals and academics from 39 countries, to achieve the set of
goals during a four-year period. Several cross-European studies were conducted employing stakeholder
consultation (Delphi) and survey methods, including analysis of current practices for assessing and supporting MA
in routine care, as well as barriers and facilitators to managing MA, work on medication management during COVID
pandemic, reimbursement pathways of adherence interventions and protocols to identify the best practices and
technologies. The MATech repository was designed by ENABLE members, and consultation of different stakeholders
is currently in progress. The repository structure includes information about the MATech product and provider,
goals and content related to managing MA, and information about the scientific evaluation and implementation. A
cross-European expert survey identified a limited number of MA enhancing interventions that are currently subject
to reimbursement. ENABLE identified the need for collaboration, infrastructure, and reimbursement to enhance the
uptake of MATech in daily practice.
opterećenjem pojedinaca i zdravstvenih sistema.
adherence (Medication Adherence Technologies - MATech).
identifikuju nabolje prakse i tehnologije.
sadržajima u vezi MA, i informacijama o naučnim procenama i implementaciji MATech.
MATech u rutinskoj praksi.

ENABLE identified the need for collaboration, infrastructure, and reimbursement to enhance the
opterećenjem pojedinaca i zdravstvenih sistema.
adherence (Medication Adherence Technologies - MATech).
identifikuju nabolje prakse i tehnologije.
sadržajima u vezi MA, i informacijama o naučnim procenama i implementaciji MATech.
MATech u rutinskoj praksi.",

AB - The global face of community pharmacy is changing. The trend in decreasing number
of healthcare professionals, and partial overlapping of their roles, lead to development of
new community pharmacy services that integrate multidisciplinary collaboration. The
community pharmacy services development is recognised in several of the International
Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) development goals including goals for pharmacists’
education. According to the newest FIP report, community pharmacy services globally, apart
from dispensing and supply of medicines, are categorised as: 1) services involving clinical
decision-making for treatment initiation, continuation, or modification; 2) providing
medicines and pharmaceutical care beyond the pharmacy premises; 3) disease screening;
and 4) providing first aid/immediate care (1). Implementation of community pharmacy
services should be based on scientific principles to achieve their effectiveness and
sustainability. Implementation science aims to provide methods and strategies for effective
service implementation. Based on many implementation researches several
theories/frameworks were created to facilitate analysis of elements of each implementation
step: factors/determinants which influence implementation, strategies and tools for

services should be guided by global trends in development of community pharmacy services
and strategies for their implementation.

AB - Background: Emotional intelligence (EI) can help perceive, understand, and manage emotions and positively impact performance in any profession, including pharmacists, and consequently may have positive influence on patient-related outcomes. Although there is strong body of evidence suggesting that developing EI in health professionals (HPs) can increase their capacity to successfully communicate and build relationships with patients, thus increasing patient satisfaction, little is known about it in pharmaceutical care (PhC).

Objectives: This review aimed to synthesize available data on the probable impact of EI on PhC.

Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases were searched for papers in English dated between January 2000 and June 2021. Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method studies on EI and PhC that involved practicing pharmacists were included.

Results: The inclusion criteria were met by 4 papers only. One reported positive impact of EI in reducing the negative correlation between autistic-like traits and empathy among hospital pharmacists. One study demonstrated that EI levels can be significantly enhanced through pharmacy leadership programs. Another study established a positive correlation between EI and entrepreneurial orientation in practicing community pharmacists. Higher EI scores were predictors of increased work innovation, proactivity, and risk-taking levels. One study reported comparative EI data between different HPs and found pharmacists' superiority in the EI subdomains of self-awareness, self-motivation, and social skills.

Conclusion: Additional research is required to provide evidence on how EI and EI development programs can add value to the provision of PhC. Processes and resources ought to be developed and secured to support the implementation and follow-up of such programs to bring long-term benefits to practicing pharmacists and consequently positively impacting patient-reported health outcomes.

AB - Introduction An online interactive repository of available medication adherence technologies may facilitate their selection and adoption by different stakeholders. Developing a repository is among the main objectives of the European Network to Advance Best practices and technoLogy on medication adherencE (ENABLE) COST Action (CA19132). However, meeting the needs of diverse stakeholders requires careful consideration of the repository structure. Methods and analysis A real-time online Delphi study by stakeholders from 39 countries with research, practice, policy, patient representation and technology development backgrounds will be conducted. Eleven ENABLE members from 9 European countries formed an interdisciplinary steering committee to develop the repository structure, prepare study protocol and perform it. Definitions of medication adherence technologies and their attributes were developed iteratively through literature review, discussions within the steering committee and ENABLE Action members, following ontology development recommendations. Three domains (product and provider information (D1), medication adherence descriptors (D2) and evaluation and implementation (D3)) branching in 13 attribute groups are proposed: product and provider information, target use scenarios, target health conditions, medication regimen, medication adherence management components, monitoring/measurement methods and targets, intervention modes of delivery, target behaviour determinants, behaviour change techniques, intervention providers, intervention settings, quality indicators and implementation indicators. Stakeholders will evaluate the proposed definition and attributes’ relevance, clarity and completeness and have multiple opportunities to reconsider their evaluations based on aggregated feedback in real-time. Data collection will stop when the predetermined response rate will be achieved. We will quantify agreement and perform analyses of process indicators on the whole sample and per stakeholder group. Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval for the COST ENABLE activities was granted by the Malaga Regional Research Ethics Committee. The Delphi protocol was considered compliant regarding data protection and security by the Data Protection Officer from University of Basel. Findings from the Delphi study will form the basis for the ENABLE repository structure and related activities.

AB - Healthcare professionals should serve as promoters of ra-tional antibiotic use in attempt to decrease antibiotics misuse within the process of self-medication. Current pilot study was undertaken with the aim to identify potential predictors of self-medication with antibiotics (SMA) and to describe SMA practice among nursing students in Serbia. Data have been collected dur-ing the period March-May, 2016 in Medical school of bachelor degree, in Belgrade. Self-reported questionnaire served as a data source. Descriptive statistic was used to analyse study sample characteristics. Chi-square test was used to test differences be-tween groups. Study sample have included 138 participants. Al-most half of them, 43.8%, practice SMA. Life style (smoking, al-cohol consumption, sleeping habits and physical activity) and so-cio-demographic characteristics (excepted school grade) were not shown as SMA determinants. Time & money savings were stated as the most frequent reason for SMA, while common cold, sore throat and cough were the most common conditions cured through SMA. Pharmacists’ recommendations and previous pos-itive experience were specified as the most important in the pro-cess of antibiotics selection, indicated by 50.0% and 37.5% par-ticipants, respectively. Amoxicillin was the most frequently used antibiotic in SMA, used by 50% of participants who practice SMA. High proportion of SMA and observed practice among nursing students in Serbia call for efforts with regards to relevant educa-tion about rational antibiotic use, actual clinical guidelines and potential consequences of misuse.
