AB - Background: Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been recognized by the International Pharmaceutical Federation as a required competency for a pharmacist. This study aimed to compare EI and Perceived Stress (PS) levels in pharmacists who completed the post-graduate specialization program (the Case), and pharmacists who started the program (the Control group). Materials and Methods: Validated instruments measuring EI and PS were distributed online to participating postgraduates or alumni. All complete responses were analyzed; data from participants who had undergone previous EI training were excluded. Comparing the groups, additional EI domains’ subanalysis and their correlations with PS were made. Results: The overall response rate was 67.8%. There was no expected difference between the groups either in EI or in the PS levels, and the overall population reached means of 119.30±12.92 and 17.25±6.46, respectively. The highest EI levels were found in sales and marketing professionals in the pharmaceutical industry and the lowest in clinical pharmacy practitioners. EI and PS were highly negatively correlated (r=-0,543), thus indicating that developing EI may have protective effects against stress. Subanalysis revealed the highest potential for stress-protective effects in the Emotional Self-Management and Emotional Self-Control subdomains (r=-0,528, r=-0,457, respectively). Conclusion: Given the expanded importance of EI development in pharmacy practice, the results of the study could be a basis for the specialization and continuing pharmacist education program creators to evaluate the curricula and propose changes in the methodologies, contents, and approaches in work to meet development needs of post-graduate pharmacists better. Further research should confirm the findings of the EI subanalysis.

AB - Background. Ethical issues are closely related to everyday work at community pharmacies and pharmacists
are often in the situations to decide between more procedures with consequential impact on the rights and ben-
efit of other people. The education they receive at undergraduate study might be insufficient for ethical deci-
sion-making on complex situations in clinical practice. Ethical values make a substantial part in any discussion
on ethics and ethical behaviour, but teaching about moral values are not mandatory for any healthcare profes-
sionals in Serbia, pharmacists as well, neither at graduate nor postgraduate levels and continuing professional
development. Conducting empirical research from pharmacy ethics could help educators and practitioners to
develop and implement those topics into curricula and improve the educational outcomes in the field of phar-
macy ethics. This could lead to tailor-based educational model that might empower community pharmacists
to more significantly resolve situations regarding conscientious objection and ensure better understanding of
reasons behind their behaviour, when delivering pharmaceutical care.
Aim/purpose. This study aimed to assess the perception of pharmacists regarding the situations that raised
ethical issues of conscientious objection and their concerns related to compromising ethical values while car-
ing for patients’ healthcare needs at community-based settings.
Empirical methods and/or theoretical perspective. The research presented is only a part of a broader re-
search work conducted in Serbia on community pharmacists’ values and ethical dilemmas faced by them.
A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among 153 community pharmacists from the northern
region of Serbia. The survey instrument had been developed and validated originally (Crnjanski et al., 2016)
as a 16-items self-administered survey instrument with proposed ethical situations – EISP scale (Ethical Issue
Scale for Community Pharmacy Setting).
Results, outcomes and implications. Participants were predominantly female (75.20%) with an average age
of 34.48±9.05 years. Every tenth respondent had completed post-graduate education. The largest proportion of
pharmacists (61.4%) faced ethical dilemmas in everyday work. Nearly all (90.20%) believed that pharmacists
should have the right to file a conscientious objection when they are unable to provide services to a patient
due to moral reasons. More than half of pharmacists (60.58%) stated that they had never compromised their
ethical values. A vast majority (71%) would never do it, under any circumstances, and slight minority of them
(13%) would compromise it for their own well-being. Pharmacists expressed the greatest concern that when
compromising ethical values, they could harm the patients (56.2%) and could call their competence into ques-
tion (26.8%). The least important were warries to potential legal problems (12.4%) and disclosure of actions
by superiors (4.6%).
Conclusions. In conclusion, community pharmacists in Serbia are confronted with numerous ethical problems
when they might reasonably decide to compromise ethical values. Most of the pharmacists face the ethical
dilemma situations when they are unable to provide services due to conscientious objection or collision with
their values. It is observed that they would compromise their values rarely and not only because of employers’
request or their own interests, but also because of the patient’s interests and moral duty to care. A value-based
education for pharmacists could help them and empower them in resolving ethical problems in practice.

AB - Smoking is a global public health problem, and control measures should be implemented in the community so as to reduce the number of smoking-related diseases and healthcare costs. Community pharmacies are ideal places for providing tobacco cessation counselling as a type of public health service, because they are the most accessible health facilities with direct contact with patients. We aimed to examine attitudes towards the implementation of such services, conducting surveys on a sample of pharmacy students (N=300), community pharmacists (N=383) and the general public (N=987) in the Republic of Serbia. The introduction of smoking cessation services at pharmacies was supported by pharmacy students (59.7%), pharmacists (49.2%), and the general public (36.7%). No difference was found between pharmacists` attitudes in terms of their gender, age, level of education and years of experience. We found evidence that pharmacists as public health practitioners were recognized mostly by students (94.3%). The majority of them (86.3%) recognized the need for additional education in order to implement new services, and every third pharmacist recognized a gap in their education. The data indicate the need for directed research in order to explore the educational needs and competences for practicing pharmacists and enable them to perform services such as smoking cessation in the future.

studenti farmacije (59,7%), farmaceuti (49,2%) i opšta javnost (36,7%). Nije pronađena razlika u
stavovima farmaceuta u odnosu na pol, starost, stepen obrazovanja i godine iskustva. Farmaceute

AB - Purpose: Pharmacists can enhance mHealth delivery by promoting the awareness and use of
health apps, while pharmacy students and early career pharmacists allow broader perspective
for further development. This study aimed to explore the experiences and attitudes of
pharmacy students and pharmacists, on the use, advantages and possible improvement of
available mHealth platforms in Serbia.
Methods: One-on-one interviews were conducted online in two phases, during March and
April 2020 (n = 40) and during March 2021 (n = 20), using a published, validated interview
guide which was adapted for this study. Interviews were transcribed ad verbatim, coded and
thematically analysed.
Results: Although participants recognized room for optimization, most apps had satisfactory
user experience. Participants used health apps as a source of updated information and tools
in education and work, but also for self-development. During working hours, participants
mostly used medication-related apps, however, it was shown that they use different health
apps in order to provide the best possible care to patients.
Conclusions: Greater insight into usage, expectations, benefits and challenges of mHealth in
pharmacy was obtained and can lead into better informed design of health apps to encou rage students and pharmacists, both as professionals and individuals, on the path of their
continuous improvement.

AB - Introduction: Voluntary blood donation (VBD) plays a key role in providing blood supplies for medical
needs. However, since the Covid period we are witnessing declining rates of voluntary blood donors.
One of the most important topics in management is motivation, and motivational factors are means that
encourage an individual to act towards a certain goal. Objectives: (i) Assess experiences and attitudes
of pharmacy students regarding VBD; (ii) Identify the physical and psychological obstacles that prevent,
as well as the motives that drive students to become voluntary blood donors; Methods: A cross-sectional
study was conducted among pharmacy students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade in
2022. A purpose-built questionnaire was used to collect primary data. Results: 127 respondents
participated, mostly female (81.1%). There were 40.2% of voluntary blood donors. 93.7% had a positive
attitude towards DDK. As obstacles for not donating blood, 35.4% stated that it was due to medical
reasons, and 18.9% said that it was fear of blood and needles. Humanity was a key motivation for VBD.
Conclusion: Education and promotional activities can increase pharmacy students' motivation for VBD.
Analysis of motivation is key to improving the recruitment and retention of voluntary blood donors. It is
important to continuously work on preserving blood supplies and raising awareness about VBD among
students.

AB - This systematic literature review aimed to provide an overview of the characteristics and methods used in studies applying the Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY) concept for infectious diseases within European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA)/European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and the United Kingdom. Electronic databases and grey literature were searched for articles reporting the assessment of DALY and its components. We considered studies in which researchers performed DALY calculations using primary epidemiological data input sources. We screened 3,053 studies of which 2,948 were excluded and 105 studies met our inclusion criteria. Of these studies, 22 were multi-country and 83 were single-country studies, of which 46 were from the Netherlands. Food- and water-borne diseases were the most frequently studied infectious diseases. Between 2015 and 2022, the number of burden of infectious disease studies was 1.6 times higher compared to that published between 2000 and 2014. Almost all studies (97%) estimated DALYs based on the incidence- and pathogen-based approach and without social weighting functions; however, there was less methodological consensus with regards to the disability weights and life tables that were applied. The number of burden of infectious disease studies undertaken across Europe has increased over time. Development and use of guidelines will promote performing burden of infectious disease studies and facilitate comparability of the results.

AB - Health literacy (HL) is an important determinant of health, which has a significant role
in the management of chronic diseases and therapy (1, 2). The aim was to assess functional,
communicative, critical, and total HL and evaluate differences in literacy levels. A cross-
sectional study was performed on a sample in health institutions (pharmacies, health
centers) in urban and rural areas during 2021/2022. A validated version of the FCCHL
questionnaire was used, which assessed HL, in relation to age, gender, place of residence,
chronic disease, marital status, number of children, level of education, employment, smoking
and self-assessment of health. In the sample of 349 chronic patients, women (58.2%) and
diabetics (71.9%) dominated. Although the majority (87.1%) showed adequate HL, there are
differences among patients according to HL levels, except for gender and smoking. There is
the least difference in relation to the level of functional HL, and the most difference is shown
in critical HL. Chronic patients who had a higher level of education, live in Belgrade, parents
and married (χ2 = 28.36, p <0.001, χ2 = 4.19, p <0.05, χ2 = 6.56, p (0.05, χ2 = 14.99, p <0.05,
respectively) had statistically significant higher levels of critical HL. We concluded that the
application of the FCCHL questionnaire can reveal differences in the levels of total HL and
more importantly critical and communicative literacy. These results may be important to
clinicians in practice to easier identify patients who need help with management and use of
information for better disease control.
upravljanju hroničnim bolestima i terapijom (1, 2). Cilj ovog istraživanja je bila procena
funkcionalne, komunikativne, kritičke i ukupne HL i procene razlika u nivoima pismenosti
kod hroničnih pacijenata. Studija preseka na uzorku u zdravstvenim ustanovama (apoteke,
domovi zdravlja) urađena je u gradskoj i ruralnoj sredini tokom 2021/2022 godine,
status, pušenje i samoprocenu zdravlja.
bolesti.

AB - A reliable diagnostic tool used to measure the severity of symptoms of lower urinary tract disorders is the International Prostate Symptom Score questionnaire (IPSS), developed by the American Urological Association in 1992. The IPSS is available online in 53 different language variants. Twenty-seven language versions of the questionnaire have been validated in 22 published studies. The aim of the work is to examine the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms in men in the Republic of Serbia. The research was conducted between May and June 2022, on a sample of 207 males. The respondents were a randomly selected group over the age of 18. After the obtained results, data processing was started in the SPSS program. Most of the respondents were over 56 years old (32.4%), and according to their level of education, most of the respondents had a university education (40.1%) and high school (36.7%). To the question "How often in the last month did they get up at night to urinate?", the largest percentage of respondents answered that they never got up (26.6%). Other answers were from 1 to 5 and more, respectively 18.8%; 17.4%; 16.4%; 12.6%; 8.2%. Half of the respondents (51.2%) had intermittent urination in the last month, and 49.3% of the respondents could not delay urination in the last month. The prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms is high in the studied population. It is necessary to increase the awareness of the general population about the importance of lower urinary tract symptoms.

AB - Telepharmacy impacts pharmacists’ involvement in healthcare provision and health
care outcomes (1). This service was implemented in Slovenia since September 2020 (2),
opposite to Serbia where this service is not yet implemented. The objective of this study was
to compare views of community pharmacists from Serbia and Slovenia in regards to their
understanding of the concept of telepharmacy, perceived risks and facilitators, as well as
views on overall capacity to implement such services. Semi-structured interviews with
community pharmacists were conducted in Slovenia and Serbia from October 2020 to March
2021. Interviews were transcribed ad verbatim, coded, thematically analysed and results
were compared for each major emerged theme. In total, 33 community pharmacists accepted
to participate (10 from Slovenia and 23 from Serbia). Pharmacists from both countries
expressed great interest, motivation and understanding of the concept of telepharmacy.
Participants agreed that the services should be charged and remunerated mostly by health
insurance funds, and complement the provision of pharmaceutical care in person. They both
shared doubts regarding adequacy of pharmacists’ involvement in provision of healthcare,
recognising telepharmacy as a tool to enhance it. Participants from Slovenia expressed
concerns regarding standardisation, regulations and personal data protection surrounding
telepharmacy. On the other hand, participants from Serbia believed that implementing
telepharmacy is not yet possible due to lacking regulatory, financial and organisational
infrastructure. Slovenian telepharmacy service model may present a good example for
profound understanding of facilitators, risks and barriers related to development and
implementation of a new pharmacy service in Serbia.

oktobra 2020. do marta 2021.
telefarmacije još nije moguća zbog nedostatka regulatorne, finansijske i organizacione
infrastrukture.
apotekarske usluge u Srbiji.

AB - Background/Aim. The Critical Incident Technique
(CIT) is a qualitative research method for measuring con-
sumer satisfaction by collecting and analyzing information
on participants and their activities. This method allows
participants to present their detailed experiences related to
a particular service in the way they perceive them. The aim
of this study was to examine patients' perceptions of an
incident that occurred in community pharmacies using
CIT and determine recommendations for improving the
quality of pharmacy services. Methods. A qualitative
study using an interview based on the CIT was conducted
in three pharmacies in Serbia, on the territory of Kruševac
city. The entire course of the interviews was audio-
recorded, which provided detailed research. Results. A to-
tal of 68 critical incidents were collected and divided into
two groups: positive (37) and negative (31), depending on
the (dis)satisfaction of patients with the services of phar-
macists in community pharmacies. The following thematic
clusters of pharmacy services were covered: accessibility of
community-based pharmaceutical services, pharmacist be-
havior, patient counseling, dispensing drugs and/or medi-
cal devices, compounding, and pharmacy
sales/commercial practice. Conclusion. The results show
that the CIT is a useful tool for evaluating and improving
pharmaceutical services. Based on the data collected, vari-
ous aspects of community pharmacy services can be im-
proved, and further research should be carried out.
AB - Uvod/Cilj. Tehnika kritičnih incidenata (TKI) je kvalita-
tivna metoda istraživanja z a merenje zadovoljstva klije-
nata putem prikupljanja i analiziranja podataka o
učesnicima i njihovim aktivnostima.
Rezultati. Ukupno je prikupljeno 68
kritičnih incidenata i podeljeno u dve grupe: pozitivne
(37) i negativne (31), zavisno od (ne)zadovoljstva klije-
nata uslugama farmaceuta u apotekama. Obuhvaćeni su
sledeći aspekti usluga u apoteci: dostupnost farma-
ceutskih usluga u zajednici, ponašanje farmaceuta,
savetovanje pacijenata, izdavanje lekova i/ili medicinskih
sredstava, rastvaranje lekova i prodaja/komercijalna
praksa farmaceuta. Zaključak. Rezultati pokazuju da je
TKI korisno sredstvo za procenu i unapređenje farma-
ceutskih usluga.
voljstva pacijenata kvalitetom farmaceutske usluge.

sledeći aspekti usluga u apoteci: dostupnost farma-
ceutskih usluga u zajednici, ponašanje farmaceuta,
savetovanje pacijenata, izdavanje lekova i/ili medicinskih

AB - Technology development, higher Internet and smart devices accessibility have
contributed to increasing the use and application of social media, online platforms and
applications in healthcare, where healthcare professionals use social media both privately
and while performing professional tasks (1, 2). The aim of the research was to examine
attitudes of biomedical sciences students towards application of social media in
communication with patients. A questionnaire was created, then distributed using the
Snowball technique. 311 students participated, all of whom used social media at least once.
YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook are the most used platforms, used daily (97.11%) for
personal and/or professional use. 82.24% believe helping patients to understand online
information is a new pharmacists' duty in digital age, and 61.09% that it is their obligation to
keep up with current trends in social media usage. The majority thinks that social media
have the potential to improve communication between pharmacists and patients (76.38%)
and that it is ethically acceptable for pharmacists to communicate with patients through
social media (55.63%), without violating their confidentiality (53,23%). Every second
student thinks that it is ethically unacceptable for a pharmacist to communicate with a
patient through social media private accounts, and to visit patients' profiles (51.77%).
Encouraging is that 92.60% find it unacceptable that patients' confidential information is
shared without patients' consent. The results indicate a positive attitude of biomedical
sciences students about using social media to help patients understand information available
online, and that social media have the potential to improve communication between
pharmacists and patients.
AB - Razvoj tehnologije, veća dostupnost interneta i pametnih uređaja, doprineli su povećanju
upotrebe i primene društvenih mreža, onlajn platformi i aplikacija u zdravstvu, gde
YouTube, Instagram i
poverljivih informacija o pacijentima bez njihovog pristanka.

AB - Peer education (PE) is a more effective strategy for improving the health of
adolescents than traditional methods (for example, teacher training) (1). Along the
improvement of knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours between students are also
improved with various medical problems in mind (2). We analysed the positive and negative
sides of PE from the perspective of students, as well as how many would be interested in
peer-to-peer education. A cross-sectional study has been conducted in November and
December of 2020 on a sample of students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of
Belgrade (N = 145), using a purpose-built questionnaire. Dominant were females (83.4%). As
the most significant positive side, 44.8% of respondents state that they are better acquainted
with the issues and the way of thinking of peer educators. As the main shortcoming, the
largest number of respondents (97.8%) state insufficient experience and training of peer
educators. Students would like to be educators (51.3%), mostly on the topic of disease
prevention, health promotion and healthy lifestyles (20.3%). The results show that students
have positive attitudes towards peer education, which need to be further researched,
especially because of its importance in adolescence.
fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu (N=145), korišćenjem namenski kreiranog upitnika.
Dominantno je bilo osoba ženskog pola (83,4%). Kao najznačajniju pozitivnu stranu 44,8%
ispitanika navodi bolju upućenost u problematiku i način razmišljanja vršnjačkih edukatora.
temu prevencije bolesti, promocije zdravlja i zdravih stilova života (20,3%). Rezultati

AB - Throughout history, people have been affected by numerous pandemics, whether
caused by human factors or natural disasters and calamities (1). In the conditions of
epidemics, health workers also become vulnerable, and as a priority they put the needs of
their patients above their own (2). The aim of the research was to examine beliefs of
students regarding the obligations of health workers in the conditions of global pandemics,
on a sample of 268 students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade were
interviewed using a purpose-built questionnaire. The mean age was 21.41±2.11. Dominated
by females (87.3%), from the fifth year of study (35%) and with a completed secondary
vocational school (52.2%). The majority of respondents (91%) believe that by choosing a
profession they consciously accept the possibility of being exposed to a high risk of infectious
diseases. But, 67.5% of students stated that they were not fully awared of all the risks that
characterize the profession of health worker and the risk to their health while dealing with
sick patients, as well as the way of their own protection. More than half of respondents
(56%) would refuse to provide medical care to a high-risk patients if they did not have
adequate protection. The obtained results indicate that there is a certain level of concern for
the safety of health workers in the conditions of a global pandemic.
prirodnim katastrofama i nepogodama (1). U uslovima epidemija i zdravstveni radnici

AB - The position of pharmacists in Serbia has changed through periods of learning a
professional role, complete professionalization and deprofessionalization. Solemn ceremony
during faculty enrollment is important strategy for creating a sense of connection with the
profession and strengthening its identity, as well as professional socialization of pharmacists
(1). The aim of this research is to examine attitudes of students and alumni regarding the
position of pharmaceutical profession in society. A cross-sectional study design with
purpose-built questionnaire was used. Data were over a period of three months. 409 subjects
participated, of which 140 were alumni, predominantly female (84.8%). Most respondents
(86.8%) answered that pharmaceutical profession is not sufficiently valued in society or by
other medical professions (79.2%) and the importance of pharmacists for patient healthcare
is not sufficiently recognized (76.8%). The majority of respondents believe that public and
other healthcare professionals do not recognize the knowledge of pharmacists for
optimization of therapeutic outcomes (86%, 76.3% respectively). Introducing a solemn
ceremony for students at admission, and taking the oath after studies was supported by
66.2% and 84.1% respondents, respectively, in response to growing challenges of
deprofessionalization. Poor social status perception of pharmacy has been recognized
together with importance of maintaining a professional environment at the faculty.
Pharmacy students cannot become professionals immediately after receiving university
degree or license to work. In order to become professionals, during their studies students
need to recognize and become professionally sensitive to all the factors that make pharmacy
specific, and set it apart from other healthcare professions.
AB - Položaj farmaceuta u društvu se u Srbiji menjao kroz periode učenja profesionalne
uloge, potpune profesionlizacije i deprofesionalizacije.
ojačanje profesionalnog identiteta, kao i profesionalnu socijalizaciju farmaceuta (1). Cilj
istraživanja jeste ispitivanje stavova studenata i alumnija u vezi sa položajem farmaceutske
zdravstvenom zbrinjavanju pacijenata nisu dovoljno prepoznati (76,8%).

AB - Youth health is one of the most important indicators of a healthy potential of the
nation, therefore its preservation and strengthening are of priority (1,2). Applying healthy
lifestyle habits from an early age reduces the possibility of various disorders in further life.
The objectives of the study were to examine the behaviors and opinions of students of the
Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade, regarding healthy lifestyles. Data collection was
conducted in November 2019 at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Belgrade, included 290
respondents; predominantly from the fourth year of study (41.7%). Tobacco use is present in
11.7%, and over half (61.7%) consume alcohol and coffee (75.2%). When it comes to
nutrition, fruits are consumed daily by 22.4% of students, vegetables by 40.7% and meat by
41%. Eating in fast food restaurants is practiced by 68.5% of respondents. Only 3.5% of
respondents report doing basic physical activity daily. 71.6% of students have regular sleep.
27.2% of students cannot afford a healthy lifestyle due to their financial status. The results
indicate that healthy lifestyles are insufficiently represented in the student population, and
interventions in changing student habits are desirable.

(75,2%). Kada je u pitanju ishrana, voće svakodnevno konzumira 22,4% studenata, povrće
40,7%, a meso 41%. Ishranu u restoranima brze hrane praktikuje 68,5% ispitanika. Samo
3,5% ispitanika prijavljuje da obavlja svakodnevno osnovnu fizičku aktivnost. Redovan san

AB - Discovery of antibiotics significantly decreased the mortality rate and extended life
expectancy. However, the irrational use of antibiotics has made bacteria resistant to a
number of them (1). Many countries are adopting certain strategies for the use of the
antibiotics. Integral parts of these strategies are the education of health professionals as well
as KAP research (knowledge, attitudes and behaviors) of medical students regarding the
rational use of antibiotics (2). The aim of the research was to examine the knowledge of
pharmacy students regarding the rational use of antibiotics in Serbia through an online
questionnaire. The research was conducted among 375 students, during 2019 at 5 faculties
in Serbia with department of pharmacy from junior to senior study year. The sample was
determined as 10% of the total number of students in each year of study. The average age of
respondents was 22.15 ± 1.78 years. The largest percentage of students (86.9%) answered
that a module on the rational use of antibiotics (drugs) within the Pharmacy study program
is needed. Respondents' knowledge was tested through 15 questions. The total percentage of
correct answers in the questionnaire was 85.2%. Most of the respondents had 14 correct
answers (32%), while 16.8% had all 15. The knowledge level mostly grew from the first to
the final year of study. The knowledge of Serbian pharmacy students regarding the rational
use of antibiotics is at a high level and they are aware of the antimicrobial resistance
problems as well as the irrational use of antibiotics.
racionalnoj upotrebi antibiotika (lekova) u okviru studijskog programa Farmacija potreban.
Znanja ispitanika proverena su kroz 15 pitanja. Ukupan procenat tačnih odgovora u upitniku
bio 85,2%.

AB - Sima T. Joanović was born in Saravola and graduated in pharmacy in Budapest. From
Timisoara, where he worked for a short time, he came to town of Debeljača and bought a
pharmacy from Ambrosy Sándór, which was located in the building of the old municipality.
He moved the pharmacy to a new residential and business building on the then Elisabeth
Square. In addition to the highly developed semi-industrial production of galenic, cosmetic
and perfumery preparations, food aromas and essences were also produced in the
pharmacy, which was not the case with other pharmacies (1). The essences were made in a
galenic laboratory from 1910 to 1945. These food essences and flavors are sold wholesale
and retail in consumer goods stores as well as cash on delivery. The pharmacy was especially
known for the production of essences for various types of rum, brandy, liqueur and flavors
for non-alcoholic beverages (2). Of the rum essences, the essences for Jamaica, Kingston and
Demara rum were especially famous. Essences for making cold-processed were in great
demand. Essences for making liqueurs were a sought-after item, the pharmacy produced a
whole range of different essences. From the flavors for making non-alcoholic refreshing
drinks the pharmacy produced lemon, orange, strawberry, raspberry, kabeza, pineapple, etc.
The pharmacy printed instructions for making food products using these essences and
flavors that were distributed to consumers. These instructions were thrown out of the plane
as a special attraction at the famous large fairs that are still held in town of Debeljača.
galenskih, kozmetičkih i parfimerijskih preparata izrađivane i prehrambene arome i esencije
što nije bio slučaj sa drugim apotekama (1). Esencije su izrađivane u galenskoj laboratoriji od
1910 do 1945. godine.
i Demara rum.
narandžu, jagodu, malinu, kabezu, ananas i dr.

He published his works "What every perfumer should know" in the Pharmaceutical Herald,
which helped his colleagues in their work in the field of cosmetics. The pharmacy was widely
known for its cosmetic and perfumery products (1). The first product that made this
pharmacy famous "Bibijana" appeared as early as 1905, a non-greasy single-phase lotion
based on glycerol, which in a record short time, as printed on the instructions for use,
brought even the roughest hand skin in perfect condition. Labels in Hungarian and Serbian
were printed for this lotion, which is packed in characteristic 50 ml bottles. The composition
of the lotion included: glycerol, ethanol, laurelchery water and perfume in alkaline aqueous
solution (2). The lotion was received with great enthusiasm by the people. It was the first
product that was made in bulk. Thanks to the "Bibijana" lotion, the pharmacy became more
and more famous, but the other products in the pharmacy were also more and more in
demand.
parfem u alkalnom vodenom rastvoru (2).

AB - The Special Hospital for Addiction Diseases (SBBZ) received the status of a secondary
level health care institution and reference center for addiction diseases in 2007. The turning
points in the development of the pharmacy service in SBBZ in the previous 60 years are
presented, by applying the method of historical analysis for the period from 1958 until
today. The dispensary for the treatment of alcoholics and the fight against alcoholism was
founded in 1958 in Belgrade, and a hospital pharmacy within the Clinical Department for
Alcoholism started operating there. For the next four decades, it grew into the Institute for
Alcoholism (1968), the Institute for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction in 1973, and in 1980
changed its name to the Institute for Addiction Diseases. This health institution is part of the
OOUR Clinic for Psychiatry and Neurology (1987), which was one of the working
organizations of the Clinical Hospital Center "Dr Dragisa Misovic-Dedinje". The Institute for
Addiction Diseases was founded in 1992, separated from the KBC and has been operating as
the SBBZ since 2007 (1). With the independence of the hospital, the hospital pharmacy
organizationally belonged to the laboratory and the hospital pharmaceutical activity was
performed by only one pharmacist (2). It can be concluded that the transformation of the
health institution had little impact on the work of the hospital pharmacy service because at
all turning points there was always a pharmacist as the only professional, a holder of a job in
a hospital pharmacy.
AB - Specijalna bolnica za bolesti zavisnosti (SBBZ) dobija status ustanove sekundarnog
nivoa zdravstvene zaštite i referentnog centra za bolesti zavisnosti 2007. godine. Obavlja
delatnosti iz oblasti: psihijatrije, neurologije, interne medicine, biohemijsko-toksikološke
dijagnostike, farmaceutske delatnosti, psihologije, specijalne pedagogije, socijalne zaštite.
Narednih
mnogo kasnije, 2020. godine bolnička apoteka postala izdvojena, samostalna organizaciona

AB - Nowdays, many viral infections have become a major burden on public health.
Hepatitis B is a potentially fatal disease caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV), which can be
prevented by immunization (1). Therefore, the aim of the research was to assess the
knowledge and attitudes of pharmacy students at the University of Belgrade regarding HBV.
Two prospective cross-sectional studies were conducted during 2017. and 2022. using a
purpose-built questionnaire. 583 students participated in the research, of which 300 in
2017. and 283 in 2022. Female students accounted for 77% vs 80%. 24% vs 20% knew
which types of hepatitis exist, while 25% vs 35% believe that they received the vaccine at
birth. 97% vs 98% think that as future health professionals they should have knowledge
about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including HBV, while 18% vs 16%
think they already acquired that knowledge. 57% vs 58% would vaccinate against HBV. A
quarter of the respondents in 2017. and a fifth in 2022. believe that knowledge they acquired
at the faculty about the transmission of HBV infection is adequate. The obtained results show
that the knowledge of pharmacy students about HBV decreased in 2022. compared to 2017.
although the faculty increases importance on this topic. Increased number of students who
would vaccinate against HBV is encouraging. Therefore, it is necessary to emphasize the
importance about risk, prevention and increase awareness of vaccination benefits for
pharmacy students.
studenata farmacije, Farmaceutskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu o HBV. Sprovedene su
dve prospektivne studije preseka tokom 2017. i 2022. godine, pomoću namenski kreiranog
upitnika. U istraživanju je učestvovalo ukupno 583 studenata, 300 studenata 2017. i 283
studenta 2022. godine. Studenti ženskog pola su činili 77% tj. 80% ispitanika. 24% odnosno
fakultetu o prenosu infekcije HBV adekvatno.

AB - Pharmacies are the most represented health institutions in a community. Some of
their numerous benefits for public health activities are longer working hours and possibility
to get advice without making an appointment (1). An increasing number of countries has
recently become actively involved in the promotion of public health services in pharmacies.
A review of the papers shows that pharmacists feel more comfortable in providing drug-
related than public health-related services. In the United Kingdom, smoking cessation
activities are the most common public health activity of pharmacists (2). Smoking is a
difficult form of addiction. Quitting smoking is a big challenge. Many states allow
pharmacists to initiate therapy or assess the success of cessation and monitor for adverse
reactions. According to pharmacy students in Serbia, the pharmacy is a place where public
health services should be provided (98.7%), while 59.7% of respondents believe that
smoking cessation services should also be implemented there. The general public (80.3%)
strongly agrees that public health activities should be an integral part of pharmacy services.
The general population supports the smoking cessation service in the percentage of 36.7%,
while pharmacists support it in 49.2%. The views of pharmacy students, the general public
and pharmacists point to a positive attitude towards the new and modern model of
pharmacists, which certainly includes public health services. Before the pilot implementation
of these pharmaceutical services in pharmacies, the main obstacles should be identified and
overcome.
aktivno uključuje u promociju javno-zdravstvenih usluga u apotekama (1). Kroz pregled
identifikovati i otkloniti glavne prepreke.

AB - The rising popularity of dietary supplements as a part of self-care practice increases interest
in monitoring their usage in the general and specific population groups. This study investigated
the prevalence and patterns of dietary supplement use among Belgrade University undergraduate
students and its variations across different academic study fields. Of the 914 online survey students,
55.7% used dietary supplements during the past year. Female gender, eating behavior, and academic
field were significant predictors of dietary supplement use. For all students, the most commonly used
dietary supplements were vitamins and minerals, alone or in combination. Magnesium, vitamin C,
and B vitamins were the most frequently supplemented micronutrients. The reasons for using, place
of purchase, and source of information regarding dietary supplements significantly varied among
students of different fields of study. Adverse effects related to dietary supplement use, including
gastrointestinal symptoms, skin flushing, dizziness, and heart palpitation, were reported in 4.5% of
students. Insufficient knowledge about these products was self-reported by 16.5% of users, more
common among non-medical students. Thus, public health interventions are needed to improve
students’ knowledge regarding rational and safe dietary supplement use.
