AB - The initial general pharmacists’ attitudes and beliefs scale about their own work with
patients was constructed by D. Jocić, D. Krajnović in 2012. It includes cognitive, affective and
behavioral claims. The scale was applied multiple times, followed by validation. The aim was
to check the movement of the measuring characteristics of the scale. The study combined 2
studies. In Study 1, a sample of 123 licensed pharmacists validated the initial instrument and
proposed a new developed version (1). In Study 2, on a sample of 514, the validity of the
scale and high reliability parameters were confirmed (2). In Study 1, reliability was
determined by the internal consistency method (Cronbach's alpha: 0.670). Factor analysis of
principal components was performed and seven factors with latent roots greater than 1
were obtained (explain 64.92% of total variance and 30.84%, 8.20%, 6.55%, 5.63%, 5.01%,
4.68% and 4.01%, respectively (1). Some claims in the scale are excluded, the final version of
the scale contains of 23 claims (1). In study 2, greater reliability was obtained. The reliability
and internal consistency of the subscales were assessed (Cronbach alpha: Cognitive Attitudes
0.774, Affective Attitudes 0.849, Behavioral Attitudes 0.867). The correlations between the
scales were extremely high (2). The developed scale also met the statistical criteria of
reliability during the first application, and based on these results, the effectiveness could be
assumed. Research on a larger sample showed even better psychometric characteristics.
Further research on a larger and more heterogeneous sample may show exceptional
psychometric characteristics.
Obuhvata
tvrdnje iz kognitivne, afektivne i bihevioralne oblasti. Skala je višestruko primenjivana, pri
čemu je svaka primena bila praćena validacijom. Cilj ovog rada bila je provera kretanja
osnovnih mernih karakteristika skale.
8.20%, 6.55%, 5.63%, 5.01%, 4.68% i 4.01% (1).
U studiji
2 dobijena je veća pouzdanost. Izvršena je procena pouzdanosti i interne konzistencije svake
od podskala (Cronbach alpha: Kognitivni stavovi 0.774, Afektivni stavovi 0.849, Bihejvioralni
stavovi 0.867). Korelacije između skala bile su izuzetno visoke (2). Razvijena skala je i
prilikom prve primene zadovoljila statističke kriterijume pouzdanosti i na osnovu ovih
rezultata mogla se pretpostaviti efektivnost. Istraživanje na većem uzorku pokazalo je još
bolje psihometrijske karakteristike.
heterogenijem uzorku mogu pokazati izuzetne psihometrijske karakteristike skale.

AB - The experience and attitudes of pharmacists towards research ethics through pharmacy practice research is largely unknown. This study sought to examine the pharmacists' experience if they were research participants and their attitudes on the importance of informed consent in research practice. A cross-sectional survey was employed to achieve the aims of this study. The majority of 433 participating pharmacists were female (86.1%); the average age was 43.2 +/- 9.5 years, and their average working experience was 15.0 +/- 9.6 years. Almost half of the respondents came from a medium chain pharmacy (47.3%) in Serbia. Older pharmacists reported the experience of being informed in detail by the researcher in their practice, had an informal agreement or a written agreement before the research process started, and believed it was necessary to know their rights in research. The more experienced pharmacists reported capturing objective and distant relationships with researchers when participating in pharmacy practice research. There was a significant difference between the experience of male and female pharmacists in the study. Those employed in medium chain pharmacies believed it was necessary to have informal agreement or a written agreement before beginning the research process. Results indicated that pharmacists show positive attitudes toward informed consent and its importance and these attitudes were more emphatically expressed by older and more experienced pharmacists in Serbia.

AB - Background/Aim. Studies on physicians and other health care professionals indicate that attitudes towards and beliefs in their work with patients, can affect the quality of health care, and patients' behaviour and compliance, thus an instrument is needed to survey pharmacists as healthcare providers. The aim of this study was to describe the development and psychometric validation of a survey instrument to assess attitudes and beliefs of pharmacists toward their work with patients (Pharmacists' Attitudes and Beliefs Scale, PABS). The aim of this research was to determine the reliability, validity and factor structure of a newly constructed instrument - PABS. Methods. The statements from the cognitive, affective, and behavioral areas were identified by literature review and selected to cover the behavior of pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care at community settings. The initial 5- point Likert type scale of 30 items was constructed and after initial validation its revised form developed. The reliability, construct validity and factor structure of the scale were established. Results. The reliability of the scale was determined by the method of internal consistency, on a convenient sample of 123 community pharmacists. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.67. Factor analysis of principal components was performed and 7 factors with latent roots greater than 1 were extracted, explaining 64.92% of total variance, a single 30.84%, 8.20%, 6.55%, 5.63%, 5.01%, 4.68% and 4.01%. Based on the results of factor analysis in the development of the scale, some items in the scale were excluded (totally 7), so that the revised form of the PABS contained a total of 23 items. Conclusion. The initial PABS scale did not meet theoretical statistical criteria for reliability (Cronbach's alpha coefficient was lt 0.7), but the findings indicated its potentially acceptable construct validity. The results support its use as a research tool to assess the behavior of pharmacists in daily practice, and provide its use as an indicator of quality in delivering pharmaceutical care.
Rezultati.

AB - State anxiety, work-related stress and burnout syndrome have been truly documented in health care workers. This research is focused to analize the relation of self-assessed degrees of state anxiety, work-related stress levels and burnout levels as well as their relation to pharmacists' attitudes and beliefs towards their work with patients. The research design was cross-sectional and descriptive. A survey method by self-administered technique was used on the convenient sample of 647 community pharmacists. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for data analysis. The results indicated that more than half of subjects self-assesed the high degree of state anxiety and stress' levels (60.3% and 55.8%, respectively) and nearly half of them (44.4%) experienced the high level of burnout syndrome. These phenomena are interconnected and related to pharmacists' attitudes and beliefs. The self-assessed level of state anxiety, stress and burnout syndrome were related and high levels were reported among older pharmacists (51 - 60 years) with more years of practice (11-20 years) from Belgrade region.

The self-assessed level of state anxiety, stress and burnout syndrome were related and high levels were reported among older pharmacists (51 - 60 years) with more years of practice (11-20 years) from Belgrade region.",

AB - Introduction: According to legal provisions and moral and ethical principles, pharmacists are required to contribute to improving the level and quality of health care services of their professional duties. Modern pharmaceutical practice in a community pharmacy setting presumes a pharmacist faced to many situations, when is required to see the right decisions to concern for the welfare of the patient. It carries a new kind of professional expectations and obligations, but may produce serious conflicts and ethical dilemmas as well. Objective: To describe the importance of professional ethics and knowledge of ethical codes, ethical principles and moral principles by pharmacists, and the ways of making decisions in situations where pharmacists encounter to the ethical problems in terms of contemporary pharmacy practice. Content analysis was performed and ethical problems solving was analyzed. Methods: We used a descriptive approach with desk research method of reviewing available data from different sources and literature. Results: Data from the literature say about the legal interpretation of the ethical problems in practice and poor knowledge of the codes by pharmacists. By the analysis of codes, four basic principles were established: beneficence, safety, justice and autonomy. In ethical situations, pharmacists are in the state of moral anxiety based on agitation and moral conflict. There are several ways of making moral decisions. Conclusion: It is necessary to educate pharmacists in terms of knowledge of ethical codes and making distinctions with legal problems. It is necessary to develop an awareness of the importance of professional ethics and how to improve the moral decision-making.

AB - Rare diseases (RD) are very heterogenic group of disorders affecting less than 5 out of 10.000 people in the European Union (EU), at the same time putting them in danger or disabling them chronically. It is estimated that only in Serbia almost half a million people suffer from some RD. In spite of rarity, they represent an important medical and social problem. The aims of this pilot project were to evaluate the pharmacists' general knowledge and specific knowledge regarding RD, regulatory requirements and availability of drugs for the RD in the Republic of Serbia as well as pharmacists' attitudes and understanding of the health public importance of RD and drugs' availability. The prospective crosssectional KAP study was conducted during 2012, on a convenient sample of the community pharmacists from the territory of the Niš branch of Pharmaceutical Chamber of Serbia. The questionnaire was fully completed by 139 pharmacists; 89.2% were females with mean age of 43.4±9.1 years. More than half of the respondents (66.9%) knew that there was no Register of RD in Serbia, but did not know the estimated percentage of the EU population suffering and the prevalence of RD (67%, 51.8%, respectively). Insufficient information about the problem points to insecurity in basic epidemiology and regulatory knowledge. The majority of the respondents supported the establishment of the regulatory instruments for the promotion of the research and development of the orphan drugs for RD.

AB - Introduction: Insufficient blood donation is almost generally recognized as a world-wide problem being followed by a trend in an ever decreasing number of collected blood units. Aims: (i) Analysis of voluntary blood donation (VBD) trends among the student population at the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Pharmacy (FP), and the following types of activities: (ii) analysis of students' information on VBD as well as the employees' motivation of FP regarding VBD and (iii) the definition of recommendations for improving VBD drives among student population. Method: A retrospective study (2003-2012) using data of the Public Health Section (FP Students1 Organisation), and the database of the Blood Transfusion Institute of Serbia referring to FP students VBD was made. A prospective cross section study was conducted including students and staff of the FP during 2011/12, using customized questionnaire, while the intervention study was conducted using freshmen student population in the course of 2009-2011, during the practical training of one of the compulsory subjects. Results: Total number of potential VBD among FP students was 1133 over ten years period and the majority of them (82,6%) were blood donors. The analysis of the structure of potential VBD students by gender shows that women are more represented as VBD. It was found that almost all of the respondents from the staff (97.9%) supported the activities related with VBD at FP, and 1/3 students VBD (33.9%) were informed on the activities by promotional posters in the lobby of the Faculty. Conclusion: Promotional activities, information and education of FP students on the importance of VBD, promotion of the healthy lifestyles, health improvement and increasing the awareness about VBD as a highly moral and human act resulted in a higher motivation and recruitment of more students VBD, volunteers and students who donated blood for the first time.

AB - Background: There is growing evidence that better coping with job-related anxiety among healthcare workers is important because may affect their ability to practice effectively and may put patients at risk. Objective: to investigate the effects of autogenic training (AT) to reduce state anxiety in community pharmacists. Materials and Methods: Fulltime employed community pharmacists with state anxiety assigned to experimental group practiced the AT daily at home for 8 weeks, with one group session each week. State Anxiety was self-assessed in both group by the Burns Anxiety Inventory (BAI) at baseline, 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Results: Altogether, 40 pharmacists were self assessed by BAI and experimental group showed decrease of state anxiety degree after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of AT intervention. The level of state anxiety was lower in the experimental group after 8 weeks of AT intervention (99% significance level; mean of experimental group of 2.3000 and 3.7500 for the control group). Conclusions: AT is associated with significant reduction in state anxiety in pharmacists and can be used as an easily applied technique for reducing state anxiety in community healthcare professions settings.

AB - Efficient communication is an integral part of everyday life and as such is important for the successful professional work of a pharmacist as a member of the medical personnel, foremost on the primary health care level. Nowadays, few studies of pharmaceutical practice in the field of communication in state pharmacies are focused on the communication from a pharmacist's point of view. Few studies have dealt with the analysis of the interactive process of communication and few studies have been directed at identifying essential factors necessary for measuring the communication in a pharmacy, or to the development of communication skills that both a pharmacist and a patient should develop in order to have more successful communication and improve their interpersonal relationship, providing more adequate health care services, which would lead to the re-professionalisation of pharmaceutical expertise in the healthcare system. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to identify the barriers in communication and ways to overcome them by reviewing the literature, with a particular emphasis on personal barriers of pharmacists in community pharmacies.
