AB - The UV/IR-mixing phenomenon of non-commutative field theories is manifested by the existence
of a non-local, striped phase in the scalar field theory, where the field does not oscillate around the
same value in the whole space. We will consider modifications of the standard "kinetic term plus
potential" actions for Hermitian matrix models which describe theories free of the UV/IR-mixing
and discuss the expected receding of the striped phase in the phase diagram. We will present
results for the case of the modified theory on the fuzzy sphere and for the truncated Heisenberg
algebra formulation of the Grosse-Wulkenhaar model on the plane.

AB - We study a Hermitian matrix model with the standard quartic potential amended by a tr(RΦ2) term for fixed external matrix R. This is motivated by a curvature term in the truncated Heisenberg algebra formulation of the Grosse-Wulkenhaar model — a renormalizable noncommutative field theory. The extra term breaks the unitary symmetry of the action and leads, after perturbative calculation of the unitary integral, to an effective multitrace matrix model. Accompanying the analytical treatment of this multitrace approximation, we also study the model numerically by Monte Carlo simulations. The phase structure of the model is investigated, and a modified phase diagram is identified. We observe a shift of the transition line between the 1-cut and 2-cut phases of the theory that is consistent with the previous numerical simulations and also with the removal of the noncommutative phase in the Grosse-Wulkenhaar model.

AB - In the present article we investigate the nonlinear dynamics of microtubules, the basic components of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton, relying on the known general model. We introduce the W-potential energy, describing a crucial interaction among constitutive particles within the microtubule. Three kinds of this potential are studied, one symmetrical and two non-symmetrical. We demonstrate an advantage of the latter ones. Solutions of crucial differential equations are solitary waves. The stability of the solutions having physical sense is studied. We show that only subsonic solitary waves are stable, while supersonic ones are not.

AB - This work represents a contribution to modelling nonlinear dynamics of microtubules, the basic components of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton. Their dynamics can be explained in terms of kink and antikink solitary waves. Special attention was paid to the stability of solitonic solutions of differential equations describing the dynamics of microtubules. It is shown that subsonic solitons are stable, while supersonic ones are not.

AB - We construct and analyze a phase diagram of a self-interacting matrix field coupled to curvature of the non-commutative truncated Heisenberg space. The model reduces to the renormalizable Grosse-Wulkenhaar model in an infinite matrix size limit and exhibits a purely non-commutative non-uniformly ordered phase. Particular attention is given to scaling of model’s parameters. We additionally provide the infinite matrix size limit for the disordered to ordered phase transition line.

AB - This work aimed to prove the ability of "ready-to-use" topical vehicles based on alkyl polyglucoside-mixed emulsifier (with/without co-solvent modifications) to replace the conventionally used pharmacopoeial bases (e.g., non-ionic hydrophilic cream) in compounding practice. For this purpose, considering the regulatory efforts to establish alternative, scientifically valid methods for evaluating therapeutic equivalence of topical semisolids, we performed a comparative assessment of microstructure, selected critical quality attributes (CQAs) and in vitro/in vivo product performances, by utilizing aceclofenac as a model drug. The differences in composition between investigated samples have imposed remarkable variances in monitored CQAs (particularly in the amount of aceclofenac dissolved, rheological properties and water distribution mode), reflecting the distinct differences in microstructure formed, as partially observed by polarization microscopy and confocal Raman spectral imaging. Although not fully indicative of the in vivo performances, in vitro release data (vertical diffusion vs. immersion cells) proved the microstructure peculiarities, asserting the rheological properties as decisive factor for obtained liberation profiles. Contrary, in vitro permeation results obtained using pig ear epidermis correlated well with in vivo dermatopharmacokinetic data and distinguished unequivocally between tested formulations, emphasizing the importance of skin/vehicle interactions. In summary, suggested multi-faceted approach can provide adequate proof on topical semisolids therapeutic equivalence or lack thereof.

AB - System of delayed differential equations is used to model a pair of FitzHugh- Nagumo excitable systems with time-delayed fast threshold modulation coupling. The Hopf bifurcation of the stationary solution, due to coupling is completely described. The critical time delays, that include indirect and direct Hopf bifurcations, and conditions on the parameters for such bifurcations are found. It is shown that there is a domain for values of time lags and coupling strength where instability of the equilibrium introduced by coupling can disappear due to interaction delay.

AB - Mean field approximation of a large collection of FitzHugh-Nagumo excitable neurons with noise and all-to-all coupling with explicit time-delays, modelled by N >> 1 stochastic delay-differential equations is derived. The resulting approximation contains only two deterministic delay-differential equations but provides excellent predictions concerning the stability and bifurcations of the averaged global variables of the exact large system.

AB - A pair of Hindmarsh-Rose neurons with delayed coupling is studied. Bifurcations due to time-lag and coupling and stability of the stationary state that corresponds to the quiescence behavior are analyzed. Bursting is created by coupling and its properties strongly depend on the time-lag. In particular, there is a domain of values of time-lags which renders the bursting of the two neurons exactly synchronous.
