abstract = "The chemical components in tea have received great interest because they are related to health. In this
study the content of five heavy metals including Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn and Ni were determined by atomic
absorption spectrometry on samples of herbal teas: Quercus cortex, Gentianae radix, Althaeae radix,
Uvae ursi folium and Glycyrrhizae radix collected from Šabac's market, Serbia. Based on the obtained
content of the metals in the analyzed herbal teas, estimated daily intake (EDI) was determined. Both
target hazard quotient (THQ) and hazard index (HI) were employed to assess the potential health risk
of studied metals in teas. The herbal tea samples analysed contain essential heavy metals (Cu, Fe,
Mn, Zn) and probably essential in trace (Ni) and could contribute to the daily dietary requirements.
The THQ from 7.76·10−4 to 5.75·10-1 and HI from 0.1059 to 0.6151 values for tea samples were lower
than 1, suggesting that consumption of tea would not cause significant health risks for consumers.",
