AB - Secondary metabolism in plant plays a major role in the survival of the plant in its ecosystem, mediating the interaction of the plant with its environment. Plant bioactive compounds are biosynthesized as a defensive strategy of plants in response to natural perturbations. A number of biological effects have been associated with the main monoterpenoids detected in investigated Micromeria spp. and Clinopodium spp. essential oils. One alternative for the production of these prospective biocontrol products is in vitro plant tissue culture. Our data suggest that the metabolic potential of in vitro shoot cultures of selected species can be manipulated by varying in vitro culture conditions.

AB - This work was aimed at investigating the anatomy and composition of the essential oils from different organs of two Pimpinella species, P. tragium and P. saxifraga, originating from the central part of the Balkan Peninsula. The results of the analysis of the anatomy of the different organs of P. tragium and P. saxifraga showed that they were very similar in terms of the structure of the roots, stems and petioles. The roots showed a secondary structure and the stems had a primary structure with closed collateral vascular bundles. The petioles were cordatum, ribbed with an adaxial groove, and sparsely covered with short unior bicellular non-glandular trichomes with a pointed top (both species) or with long uniseriate, multicellular, non-glandular trichomes (P. saxifraga). Differences were observed in the anatomy of the leaves and in the indumentum of the fruits. The leaves of P. tragium were isobilateral, while those of P. saxifraga were dorsiventral. The P. tragium fruits were pubescent, covered with numerous, multicellular, uniseriate, straight or curved, gradually acuminate non-glandular trichomes, whereas the fruits of P. saxifraga were glabrous. These differences are of ecological and taxonomic significance. Secretory canals were observed in all the investigated organs of both species. The essential oils, isolated by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts with inflorescences, the roots from the flowering and fruiting period, and the fruits of both species, were analysed by GC-FID/MS. Although P. tragium and P. saxifraga essential oils showed certain differences in qualitative and quantitative patterns, all the oils were characterised by the presence of pseudoisoeugenol type phenylpropanoid epoxy-pseudoisoeugenyl-2-methylbutyrate, as well as by that of trinorsesquiterpenes pregeijerene, geijerene and trinoranastreptene. In addition, azulenes were present in all the root essential oils, whereas in the majority of the oils from the fruits and flowering aerial parts the common compound was the sesquiterpene β-bisabolene. The occurrence of phenylpropanoids of pseudoisoeugenol type and geijerenes is important from the chemotaxonomic point of view and confirms them as chemical markers of the Pimpinella species analysed so far.
organa obe vrste, nadzemnog dela sa cvastima, korena prikupljenog u fazi cvetanja i u fazi plodonošenja i ploda i analizirana GC-FID/
MS metodom. Iako su ispitivana etarska ulja P. tragium i P. saxifraga bila donekle različitog kvalitativnog i kvantitativnog sastava,
vrđuje njihovu ulogu hemijskih markera do sada ispitivanih Pimpinella vrsta.

AB - Several related yellow-flowered houseleek species which occur on the Balkan Peninsula are divided into two complexes: Sempervivum ciliosum (S. ciliosum, S. jakucsii, S. klepa, S. octopodes, and S. galicicum) and the S. ruthenicum complex (S. ruthenicum, S. leucanthum, S. kindingeri, and S. zeleborii). Due to strong phenotypic plasticity and a limited number of studies, it is difficult to assert at this point whether all the above species are well defined in the taxonomic sense. Detailed studies of the epidermal structures have not been conducted for any of the species in either complex. The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of variability of the epidermal structures together with their potential usefulness for the taxonomic characterization of the species studied. A total of 18 quantitative characters of the epidermal structures of the adaxial and abaxial surfaces of the rosette leaves were analysed within 16 populations. In all species, the epidermal cells are polygonal or irregularly shaped, with straight or sinuous anticlinal walls, while the rosette leaves are amphistomatic with anisocytic stomata. Simple biseriate multicellular glandular trichomes were found on the adaxial and abaxial surfaces and the margins of the rosette leaves. The results of the descriptive statistics, univariate (ANOVA) and multivariate statistical analysis (CDA, AHC) showed low to high variability in the epidermal cells, guard cells and trichomes. The multivariate analysis showed diversification among the complexes and species. The length of the marginal and apical trichomes of the rosette leaves contributed most to diversification.
AB - Balkansko poluostrvo nastanjuje nekoliko sličnih, žutocvetnih vrsta čuvarkuća svrstanih u dva kompleksa: Sempervivum ciliosum (S. ciliosum, S. jakucsii, S. klepa, S. octopodes, S. galicicum) i S. ruthenicum (S. ruthenicum, S. leucanthum, S. kindingeri, S. zeleborii). Rezultati deskriptivne statistike, univarijantnih (ANOVA) i multivarijantnih statističkih analiza (CDA, AHC) ukazuju na nizak do visok stepen varijabilnosti epidermalnih ćelija, ćelija zatvaračica i trihoma. Multivarijantne analize ukazuju na raznolikost kompleksa i vrsta, dok dužine marginalnih i apikalnih trihoma listova u najvećoj meri doprinose njihovoj različitosti.

AB - Three edible mushrooms of the Russulacea family (Lactarius deliciosus, Lactarius sanguifluus and Lactarius semisanguifluus), most frequently consumed in Serbia, were analyzed using the ICP-OES technique to evaluate the content of K, P, Ca, Mg, Na, Al, As, Cd and Pb, both in cap and stipe. Corresponding soils were analyzed, too. Based on the obtained values for the elemental composition of the mushrooms and the soil, bioaccumulation and translocation factors were calculated. All the examined mushrooms species were recognized as bioexclusors of analyzed toxic elements, but bioaccumulators of K, P and Ca. The studied mushrooms are good sources of macroelements. One portion of 300 g of fresh mushrooms had a significant contribution of K and P, exceeding 15 % of the recommended daily intake for the elements. On the contrary, mushrooms had a low potential to bioaccumulate toxic elements, and presented results indicated the regular consumption of wild edible mushrooms is safe for human health. Correlation analysis was applied to determine phosphorus’s influence on the elements’ content in the mushrooms and corresponding soils, demonstrating the most remarkable mushrooms' tendency to accumulate phosphorus.
AB - Циљ овог рада било је одређивање садржаја K, P, Ca, Mg, Na, Al, As, Cd и Pb у три
Lactarius semisanguifluus)

abstract = "Three edible mushrooms of the Russulacea family (Lactarius deliciosus, Lactarius sanguifluus and Lactarius semisanguifluus), most frequently consumed in Serbia, were analyzed using the ICP-OES technique to evaluate the content of K, P, Ca, Mg, Na, Al, As, Cd and Pb, both in cap and stipe.
